My first tulips leaves are up, but the blooms are still tucked like little green hearts deep inside the leaves.
Very soon, it will be time to cut the rose bushes down, so they can grown strong new branches, to split and transplant perennials, and to watch the red-green green fists off my old rhubarb open and stretch tall enough to make the first rhubarb cake of the season.
Soon, instead of the dry leaves, and piles of compost and tiny sparks of green here and there in the soil, my little garden will grow and grow and finally bloom. And so will my winter weary spirits....
